General Poker Rules
All online poker games include between two to ten players (the virtual dealer is separate) and a 52 card deck. The pot increases throughout the game as players place their bets, and the highest ranking hand wins the pot.
For a fundamental understanding of hand ranks, from the highest ranked hand to the lowest, please look at the hand rankings diagram above.
Although the basic concept remains similar across the game's many varieties, there are important strategic differences that should be learned for each type. Texas Holdem is the most commonly played online poker game, and the one which offers the largest selection of cash games and tournaments. Omaha poker games, are fundamentally based on Holdem, though these versions are easier to master. 7 and 5 card stud mainly differ from the others in that they do not incorporate community cards (see How To Play Texas Holdem re: Community Cards).

How To Play Texas Holdem Poker
Texas Hold'em is a community card game where the players combine their hole (their own) cards with the community cards placed open on the table to make the best possible five card hand.
In Texas Holdem blinds are used as forced bets to initiate more action. There is the small blind and the big blind. The size of the small blind is usually equivalent to half the size of the big blind.
In casinos a dealer button is used to mark the person representing the dealer. The dealer button is a white round plate positioned in front of the player who's sitting on dealer position. The dealer button moves clockwise one step after each hand is completed. To sit on this spot is called sitting on the button.
There are four betting rounds in Texas Hold'em, those all have their own names which are; pre-flop, flop, turn and river. In Fixed Limit the structure of betting is divided in two. On the first two betting rounds players make small bets and on the last two betting rounds they make big bets. In No Limit a player can bet any amount above minimum up to what is left in front him or her. The minimum bet is equal to the big blind or the size of a previous bet on that betting round. In Pot Limit a player can bet or raise up to the size of the pot.
HOW TO PLAY A HAND OF TEXAS HOLDEM:
At first, the dealer shuffles the cards and the blinds are posted. The blinds are the two players to the immediate left of the dealer. The first player posts the small blind and the second the big blind.
The dealer gives each player two cards face down and one at a time. The first betting round then begins with the player to the left of the big blind acting first. Betting then continues in clockwise until the last person has acted, which is the big blind. On following rounds the first player to the left of the dealer acts first. The players can do the appropriate action at the moment. It's among the following choices; fold, check, bet, call or raise.
When the first betting round has been finished the dealer lays out three open cards on the table, these are known as the flop. The second betting round begins and remaining players make the appropriate action until the last player has acted.
When the second betting round has been finished the dealer lays out one card face up on the table. This is the turn card. Betting resumes and ends when all players have made their move.
When the second betting round has finished the dealer lays out the fifth and last card face up on the table. Betting resumes as usual but when all players have made the appropriate action the player who bet or raised last shows his or hers cards. The other players fold or show their cards depending on if they have a better hand.
The player with the best poker hand (five-cards) wins the pot. To determine the hand a player may use two, one or none of its hole cards together with the five community cards.

How To Play Other Forms of Poker
There are a number of different forms of poker and although Texas Holdem is widely regarded as the best and most popular form of poker, there are many other poker varieties available. With the worldwide growth of Texas Holdem, many players have taken to other forms of poker to improve their poker knowledge further. The next most popular form of poker is Omaha which can be played two different ways (Hi & Hi/Lo). Below you will find how to play Omaha as well as Stud. Other poker forms not listed here include Razz, Five Card Draw, Pineapple & Badugi.
HOW TO PLAY OMAHA:
Omaha is a community card game where the players combine their hole cards with the community cards on the table to make the best possible five-card hand. In Omaha there are four betting rounds. They are played in the exact way as in Texas Hold'em and also with the use of blinds and dealer button.
The big difference between Omaha and Texas Hold'em is that in Omaha you get four hole cards instead of two like in Texas Hold'em. In Omaha a player must use two of his hole cards with three of the five community cards to make a poker hand instead of as in Texas Hold'em where the players combine all seven cards to make a poker hand.
Omaha high is mostly played in pot limit structure, but sometimes though rarely in fixed limit. In Pot Limit a player can bet up to the size of the pot. Minimum bet is either the size of the big blind or the size of a previous bet on the same betting round.
HOW TO PLAY A HAND OF OMAHA:
First, the dealer shuffles the cards and the blinds are posted. The blinds are the two players to the immediate left of the dealer. The first poker player posts the small blind and the second the big blind.
The dealer gives each player four cards face down and one at a time. The first betting round then begins with the player to the left of the big blind acting first. Betting then continues in clockwise until the last person has acted, which is the big blind. On following rounds the first player to the left of the dealer acts first.
To determine the hand a player must use two its hole cards together with three of the five community cards.
HOW TO PLAY SEVEN CARD STUD POKER:
Seven-Card Stud is a stud poker variant with five betting rounds. Each player gets seven cards each, three cards face down and four faced up. The goal is to make the best possible poker hand (see hand ranking) to win the pot.
In Seven-Card Stud players post antes instead of blinds before the first cards are dealt. The player with the lowest card on Third Street has to pay an obligatory bring-in. The size of the antes and bring-in varies a lot between different card rooms, but the standard is usually 1/10 of the big bet for antes and ½ a small bet for the bring-in. This is standard for the fixed limit structure which is the most common way Seven-Card Stud is played.
In contrary to the community card games like Texas Hold'em and Omaha, Seven-Card Stud is not played with a dealer button. This is because position is determined after each betting round. On the first betting round it is the lowest card that acts first and on the following betting rounds it is the highest hand that makes the first move.
HOW TO PLAY A HAND OF SEVEN CARD STUD:
All players post the antes and the dealer gives each player three cards, the first two cards face down and the last card faced up. The first betting round starts. The player with the lowest card is first to act, the turn goes clockwise until all players have acted. On following betting rounds it is the player with the highest hand that acts first. All players have the option to what is possible at the moment. The choices are fold, check, call, raise and bet.
When the first betting round is finished the dealer gives the remaining players one card faced up each. The second betting round begins with the player who has the highest hand of the two open cards.
When the second betting round is finished the dealer gives remaining players one card faced up. The third betting round resumes and ends when all players have made their move.
When the third betting round is done the dealer gives remaining players one card faced up, this the last open card that is dealt.
When the fourth betting round is finished the dealer gives each player one card faced down, this is the seventh and last card. Betting resumes and the player who made the last bet or raise show the face down cards first. The other players can fold or show their cards depending if they have a better hand.
The player with the best poker hand out of the seven on the hand wins the pot.
